Mini Bar
This project began with an idea to save pantry and counter space, while also adding a touch of elegance to an otherwise bare kitchen space. This mini bar was constructed with Birch block hardwood legs with Aspen hardwood panels used for the bar top and shelf.

Finished mini bar

First (failed) attempt at the bar shelf was to make the entire mini bar with 1 3/8" thick Birch boards

Box joint fitment test was good for the first attempt. However the fitment was too tight, and with the addition of wood glue to the joints, they would not fully close

Second attempt at bar top, I switched to a much thinner (3/4") Aspen hardwood and used dovetail joints instead of box joints

Test fitting the legs to the bar top and noting any required adjustments

Sanding completed and legs attached to bar top

Finishing the mini bar with a dark chestnut stain

Several layers of high gloss polyurethane were added, as well as polished brass rails and the mini bar is completed and ready to be stocked!
